Social Media and Motherhood

Hi! I am still here! Sorry, I have been majorly slacking on blogging lately because #motherhood. Every day there’s a new challenge that I am learning with Lily. Man, was I wrong about what I thought my days would look like being a mom before I actually became a mom, haha.

I promise that I am still here, and honestly, it’s because of YOU! There have been several times over the past few months that I have wanted to throw in the towel with blogging, but then I will receive a message from one of you that says my blog and Instagram posts encourage and (somehow) inspire you, so then I am fueled to keep writing!

My goal is to share the realness of my life, the joys and the struggles. Social media is taking over our culture. There is no fighting it (even though my husband detests it, he still gets on my Facebook haha). I am amazed by how powerful social media is, and so I have decided to use it for good to the best of my ability.

Since I became a mom, I have been very intrigued by the mom-influence on social media. Most of the popular Instagrammers (100k+followers) I follow are moms sharing about their mom life. Many of my followers who engage with me on my account and blog are moms that I have never met in person. I have ended up meeting several of these in-person and now we have real life friendships because of Instagram! I also have Instagram-only mom friends who I enjoy chatting with regularly on Instagram.

It makes sense since most of these moms are home most of the day, so it is an outlet to socialize with other adults. It’s also a place to find advice, encouragement, and find that you aren’t the only one who does xyz or had xyz happen to you.

Social media is truly amazing. I need to pick my mom’s brain on what life as a mom was like before social media because I honestly cannot imagine it!

So why do I share all of this with you?

…to tell you TWO things.

  1. You can enjoy social media without letting social media control you. I love social media. I am on it a lot. BUT, I don’t put my life in social media. For example, when I have a major mom fail, I run to my husband and friends face-to-face for help. When I need a friend to talk to, I run to my best friends. I have also used social media to start a local moms group and we gather with our kids every other week. Some of them I knew before, and some of them I met on Instagram! So I encourage you to do the same! Enjoy social media, get to know others on it, ask questions, post encouraging thoughts and stories, but don’t let it become your life, just a fun add-on :).
  2. I want to use social media to serve and minister to you. So many moms have encouraged me with pregnancy, labor and delivery, breastfeeding issues, play time with Lily, napping/schedules through Instagram. Ya’ll are more useful than google by far!!!!! I want to be the same for you. This may sound silly, but I pray about blogging and Instagram posts a lot. I know I am out there about my life on social media. But for some reason, I feel the tug to keep going. I have women across the world tell me how my posts help them. And I am so humbled and encouraged by that. Sometimes, I don’t even understand why I do what I do on social media (lol), but all I know is that I need to keep on. If social media is going to be a huge part of our lives, then I want to use it to point people to Jesus. I want to use it to help and serve others!

How do you view your social media posts? Is it to encourage and inspire others? Are you posting with intentionality?

And as always, I would love to hear from you!

What do you want to see or read more of? Are there any posts in particular that you like more than others?

Let me know on my latest Instagram post!
